Economist to present Ostrom Memorial Lecture

Economist Gary D. Libecap, a professor at the Bren School of Environmental Policy and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will present the second Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Memorial Lecture next week at IU Bloomington.

Libecap, whose research focuses on issues related to entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices, will speak at 4 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Moot Court Room of the IU Maurer School of Law. His lecture, “Environmental Externalities and Coasean Exchange,” will examine open-access problems in lights of work by Elinor Ostrom, Oliver Williamson and, especially, Ronald Coase.

The lecture honors of the memory of Vincent Ostrom and Elinor Ostrom, long-time Indiana University professors and co-founders of the Ostrom Workshop at IU Bloomington. Both died in June 2012.
